Harry’s – Great Shave!

Harry'sHarry's 1

Harry’s was created on the premise that every Man deserves a good shave at a fair price –and they deliver!  The Truman Set (love the name!) will cost you  $15 and comes with a zinc alloy handle, three blades, and a tube of shaving cream.   The brain child of Andy Katz Mayfield and Jeff Raider, the later of the eyewear company, Warby Parker (another MSM favorite), this company does not overlook any detail from the packaging to the razors (which are designed by german engineers), to the fact that for every package of blades purchased, one is donated.   With Father’s Day around the corner, we think that this is a great idea for the favorite dad in your life!

My Mom’s Muffins from The Pioneer Woman

muffins2

If you love Muffins, and you are looking for a healthier version, than you have to try these!  They are moist despite the fact that they do not contain any butter or oil.  These are perfect for breakfast or for a snack mid-day.  Dads, these would be perfect to make with the kids and to serve to mom in bed on Mother’s Day.  The only problem that I can find with these muffins is that it is hard to stop at just one!  Recipe is below.  Enjoy!

Recipe:

  • 1 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1/2 cup All-purpose Flour
  • 1/4 cup Ground Flaxseed/flaxseed Meal
  • 1 cup Regular Oats
  • 1/2 cup Packed Brown Sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Ground Cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup Walnuts, Roughly Chopped
  • 1/2 cup Raisins
  • 1 cup Buttermilk
  • 1 whole Egg
  • 1 whole Banana, Peeled And Mashed With A Fork
  • 1/2 cup Applesauce
  • 1/4 cup Molasses
  • Extra Buttermilk As Needed For Thinning

Preparation Instructions

Preheat the oven to 350 F. Thoroughly grease a 12-count muffin pan.

In a large bowl, combine flours, flaxseed meal, oats, brown sugar, salt, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, walnuts, and raisins. Stir together until combined.

In a separate bowl, mix together the buttermilk, egg, banana, applesauce and molasses.

Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, stirring until it just barely comes together. Batter should be wet and sticky; if needed, splash in a couple extra tablespoons of buttermilk.

Scoop 1/4 cup helpings into the muffin cups and bake for 16-18 minutes, or until deep golden brown.

Friday Fixin’s – The Silver Pen’s Protein Packed Vegetable Soup

soup

Happy Friday!  We enjoyed some beautiful weather at the beginning of the week, but in true Chicago fashion it has dropped nearly 30 (or 40) degrees and is cold and rainy.  This is perfect soup weather, however!  This soup recipe is packed with all sorts of good for you – feel good ingredients.  Just the sort of ingredients that will make you feel sunny inside even when it is gray outside.  The Farmer’s Markets are right around the corner, too – so even if you don’t get to this recipe this weekend, keep it in your back pocket for another day.  Enjoy!

Full Belly Craft Kitchen and Bakery

full belly

I stumbled upon Full Belly Craft Kitchen and Bakery mainly because there was a board out by Sheridan Road and I thought that the logo and the name were super cute.   Boy, was I thrilled when I decided to stop in and found out what a treasure this place is.   Full Belly specializes in “sandwich pies” that are light, flaky and so flavorful.  The Owner, Mitch, is beyond accommodating and so friendly.  When we first tried the sandwich pies he revealed that he took his time to create the recipe for the crust and we are so glad that he did because what he created is magical.  With flavors like, BBQ brisket, tuna melt, the chicken pot pie, thai chicken, pasta primavera, black angus bacon burger, decked out cheesy dog, Shroomz, the Italian, and the mac n’ cheese there is something for every palate.  Oh, and there is also a line of vegetarian pies and four breakfast pies, as well.  Each sandwich pie comes with a choice of homemade coleslaw or cheddar mac salad and Full Belly’s homemade pickles – so come hungry!

Full Belly has so much more than just sandwich pies, too, the menu includes made to order pickles of many varieties (which can be found at Sunset Foods and Whole Foods), granola (my favorite!),  vegetarian farro and quinoa salads, BBQ sauce (to come!), spice rubs and more.  All of the products at Full Belly are made in small batches from locally sourced or farm fresh ingredients.  This means that the menu may change seasonally, but with such a wide selection of products, you will always find something (or many something’s) to dine-in or carry out at Full Belly.

Make sure to look out for Full Belly’s pickle sampling at the Sunset and Whole Foods stores.  To find out dates and times,  follow Full Belly on Facebook so you can see where they are on the weekends.

Full Belly is located at 802 Sheridan Rd. Highwood, IL
.  Phone # 847-926-7164 and serves“seriously happy food” Monday-Saturday 11am-5pm.  Thank you to Full Belly for offering our readers a one-time 10% discount off the retail price of anything in the store with the mention MarketSquareMusings at the time of purchase from now until May 31, 2013.

Are you a snacker?  I feel like the guidance lately has been that snacks, albeit healthy snacks, in between meals is a good way to maintain weight.  It is hard to know what is considered “healthy” though.  Well, NatureBox, which launched in January, takes all the thinking out of health snacking.

According to NatureBox’s website, the average American eats almost 25% of their calories from snacking? In fact, snacking is the leading cause of childhood obesity. NatureBox helps you get more out of your day without wasting calories on the bad stuff.

Sign me up!  Each NatureBox costs just $19.95 and your monthly box always ships free. You can pause or cancel your delivery at any time.  Each monthly box will include 15 to 20 servings across 5 different NatureBox snacks.

The NatureBox team is so sure that you will like their products that they’ll happily issue a refund if you’re not 100% satisfied.

Also, for those of you that are burned out on making meals and are looking for a healthy meal preparation, don’t forget that Meez Meals is offering our readers, $20 off their first order.
